Immediately following the closing ceremonies of Eugene's Scooter Club Top Dead Center's 8th Annual, "Run From The Sun" Rally in Pacific City, Oregon, Ptown Scooters' very own Jim Smith will depart the lovely West Coast on a 2006 CPI GTR 150 for the 3,400 mile Scooter Cannonball. This is a cross-country venture with 400 mile, butt-numbing days for scooters ranging from 125cc's to 251cc's. The route is planned to roughly follow the famed Oregon Trail and will terminate in Bloomfield, New Jersey at Scooters Originali.

Jim's GTR 150 is a 152cc four-stroke with a CVT drivetrain. The stock setup was pretty restrictive, so to give it the low, mid & top-end power we want, we've made a few tweaks:

  • replaced the stock air filter with a better breathing "pod-style" filter
  • removed the plastic spacer from the base of the 24mm Kehin carburetor
  • replaced the stock 108 main jet with a larger 114
  • swapped-out the stock final drive fluid with slicker Mobil 1

We're still breaking the bike in but plan on adding a performance exhaust, lighter roller weights, kevlar belt, lightened clutch and whatever else we can find between now and September 2006.

A trip like this is an incredible undertaking, and we'd like to take a moment to thank all of our great sponsors who have made our participation in the 2006 Scooter Cannonball a reality:
